The Arts

Ballarat High School is committed to providing a broad range of opportunities for students to pursue, and excel in, their areas of interest. Visual arts and performing arts are both sought out education areas with us and we provide the facilities, educators and pathways for students to follow their passions in these fields.

Whizbang, Ballarat High School’s dynamic 17-piece original big band, featuring a full spectrum of brass, woodwind, rhythm section, and vocalists, has just released their new album. This is available for purchase from the front office. Previous albums can be found here.

Performing arts

Our Performing Arts department enables students to apply their learning through performance both within the school, and outside in our community, at every opportunity. Our music and drama programs enjoy high enrolment due to the engagement of those taking part.

Ballarat High School produces a School Production every year. Our School Productions are all inclusive, so any student in Years 7 to 12 can join in the fun. Ballarat High School alternates a musical / play arrangement each year.

Instrumental music

Instrumental music is another opportunity for our students, with band instruments also available for hire. Students wishing to further develop and deepen their skills can join our Instrumental Music program, withdrawing from a timetabled class on a rotational basis once per week, to receive music tuition.

Musical opportunities include:

  • Ensembles
  • Year 8 Band
  • Music Performance Classes
  • Junior Stage
  • Concert Band
  • Senior Stage Band
  • Whizbang
Visual arts

Our Sedgwick Centre is a creative Arts and Technology hub which provides contemporary learning spaces for many students, including those drawn to visual arts. This space enables our budding artists to hone their skills in painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics, textiles, media and more.
